Choosing the Right Size Dog Kennel and Run?

No matter how much your dog loves you not every dog is fond of being enclosed in a dog kennel and run compound, and nor it is required every time for the furry friend to be restrained in this way. If the owner do not intend to restrict his/her dog running around for any reason, the kindest and most humane way to do it is to set your pet in a good dog run with a comfortable kennel or doghouse. It does not matter whether you build your own kennel and run, or go out and buy a kennel and a long line allowing  your dog to run up and down while chained to it, what matters is you know how to carefully map out exactly what you will need.

1. The first question that usually comes to mind is, 'how big should the kennel be? What is the right size?' Most dog kennel and run suppliers can guide you with good ideas on the size of kennel you need, and many carry dog houses in different graded sizes, starting from those suitable for the small pet dog, ending to the extra-large sizes needed for the bigger breed dogs. Hence one can tell by the breed what size kennel it normally needs.

2. While making the purchase or building the dog run make sure the size of the kennel is not based on the current size of your dog or puppy until you know your pet is fully grown. One fact that cannot be ignored is mixed breed dogs are really huge so choose the size of the dog kennel and run wisely!

3. Another factor that needs consideration is what size is your yard? The reason is so that you can decide how much area you can spare to set up the dog kennel and run. It is advised that if you plan to be leaving your dog for hours a day, and it's just a temporary holding spot for those times you need it, then a smaller space is sufficient. If the dog is large in size then of course the more room they will acquire to run around and exercise.

5. Just never forget that if you really want your dog to be comfortable, the doghouse or kennel must be big enough to give it his space. Also remember if the dog will be restricted for any length of time then it is important to ensure that he is able to get plenty of exercise. An un-exercised dog is sure to develop some kind of behavioral problem.
